Abstract

Among the important works of Syriac literature is a unique group whose roots date back centuries, before Christianity. Its content was transmitted through local sources and in local languages, especially Aramaic, Persian, and others from foreign sources such as Greek and Hebrew. Among these unique works, for example, is the story of Ahiqar the wise, whose codification dates back to the 5th century B.C., and of which there are two versions, one ancient Aramaic and the other Syriac; and the poem of Spirit, which dates back to the Parthian era. Another important work of this group is a historical introduction to a text whose codification dates back to the sixth century A.D. It includes the stories of the Christian martyrs in the city of Karkh Beth Slokh - Kirkuk. The introduction tells what is supposed to be the history of the founding of the city of Karkh Beth Slokh by one of the Assyrian kings and the subsequent political events. The domination of the Persians, then the era of Alexander the Great and his successor, Seleucus, through the entry of Christianity into the region until the fifth century AD, a period that extends for more than a thousand years. The research includes translating and studying the historical introduction of the martyrs of Karkh Beth Salokh, the sources of the historian's information - who is unknown, and discussing several exciting issues mentioned in the introduction.
