الملخص

كشفت التنقيبات الآثارية في بلاد الرافدين عن العديد من طبعات الأختام المنبسطة والاسطوانية. ولطبعات الأختام أهمية شأنها شان أهمية الأختام نفسها بل وربما أكثر، إذ وجدت العديد من الطبعات المختلفة في حين لم يوجد الختم ذاته. وتعد طبعة الختم بمثابة توقيع رسمي، ويتخذ رمزاً مميزاً لصاحب الختم يثبت ملكيته على الشيء الذي يحمل طبعة الختم، ويعطيه الصفة الرسمية سواء أكان الشي مادة مخزنة في جرة فخارية أم عقداً مبرماً بين طرفين أو رسالة يبعث بها أحدهما إلى الآخر.


تكمن أهمية البحث في تتبع ظهور استعمال طبعات الاختام وتطورها في بلاد الرافدين منذ عصور قبل التاريخ مروراً بالعصور التأريخية وصولاً للعصر البابلي الحديث. وبناءً على تتبع هذه الطبعات ودراستها عبر العصور تبين ان لها أهمية اقتصادية وقانونية وإدارية ودينية وسياسية وأمنية، فضلاً عن الأهمية التاريخية والجغرافية واخيراً أهمية فنية.
